Cochlear Implant Techology

WHAT ARE COCHLEAR IMPLANTS?

A cochlear implant is an established, effective, and long-term solution for people of any age with moderate to profound hearing loss.

How cochlear implants produce clearer sound:
Cochlear implants replace the function of damaged sensory hair cells inside the inner ear. Unlike hearing aids, which at their most basic level make sounds louder, cochlear implants may further improve the clarity of sound and enhance your ability to understand conversations.

A cochlear implant system has two parts:
  • the external sound processor
  • the internal implant placed by a skilled surgeon

Together, the sound processor and implant bypass the part of the ear that isn’t working, sending sound straight to the hearing nerve. Watch the video below for a short explanation of how a cochlear implant functions.
